Vodafone Sells 50,000 iPhones First Day

Tuesday, 19 January 2010

Vodafone UK has delivered 50,000 iPhones on it's first day of selling the iPhone to customers who had pre-ordered it.

Vodafone is the forth mobile network in the UK to offer the iPhone after O2, Orange and Tesco Mobile which is a partnership with O2. Vodafone's first day sales figures tops those of it's rivals, Orange only sold 30,000 iPhones on it's first day of selling the iPhone, Tesco did not reveal it's sales figures, O2 also did not reveal its first day selling figures which was way back in 2007.

Vodafone does not offer much in the way of a price war on the iPhone, which is the same for all the networks, however it does offer unlimited text messages on most of it's plans, which could be a key factor for drawing new customers from rival networks. Vodafone also boasts a strong 3G network.

Along with the iPhone, Vodafone has launched two iPhone applications:

One a GPS navigation application which offers turn-by-turn directions, voice instructions and speed camera alerts for the UK, it is currently free until the end of April and only works on iPhones with a Vodafone SIM card. After April customers who decide to keep it the length of their contract will be charged £3 per month, and for those who want to take it month by month will be charged £5 per month.

The second application is called People Sync and enables users to easily move their contacts from their previous mobile phone to their iPhone.
