Skobbler iPhone navigation app launches in UK for £1.19

Friday, 14 May 2010

We blogged yesterday about free GPS navigation for mobile phones, and wondered when free navigation apps would come to the iPhone, well its not quite free but its pretty close.

Skobbler has been downloaded more that 150,000 times in Germany, and has now launched in the UK at an introductory price of £1.19, it normally costs £2.39.

This navigation app has a unique feature, it uses maps from the OpenStreetMap project. Users are able to report and highlight any issues on their route, which will then be fixed, which means that the maps are constantly up to date.

Skobbler also features:

  • Turn-by-turn GPS navigation
  • Visual and voice-guided navigation
  • 2.5D bird’s eye view graphics
  • Day and night display modes
  • iPod music playback during navigation
  • Automatic continuation of navigation after incoming calls
  • Pedestrian mode
  • Take me home function
  • Dynamic map updates at no extra cost
  • Bookmarks for favourite destinations

Skobbler is available now from the iPhone app store.
