LG Mobile World Cup under way

LG has announced that its third annual Mobile World Cup is under way, to find the world's fastest texter.

People from 20 different countries will be texting away for their chance to compete in the World Championship to be held in January 2011. The teams that win in their countries will earn a trip to New York to compete for $100,000 (USD). There will also be the chance to challenge for the Guinness World Record, which was set last year by Pedro Matias from Portugal, who accurately texted 264 English characters in just under two minutes.

LG will also be introducing Text Ed in this years programme, which aims to educate young people about the dangers of texting while driving and inappropriate texting.

The event which is the world's largest competition celebrating mobile culture, finishes in New York with a big international tournament, where one person will be crowned the world's fastest texter.

It doesn't look like there is a team from the UK, hopefully next year we will have a team.
