Google announces Android 2.2

Friday, 21 May 2010

Google has announced the latest version of its Android mobile phone operating system at its developer conference in San Francisco.

Android 2.2, codenamed Froyo, sports many new features but perhaps the most talked about one will be the support for Adobe Flash. Whilst this will keep many mobile users happy, we are unsure at the moment on what impact this will have on battery life and performance.

Other features that have been added to Android 2.2 include portable hotspot functionality, the ability to install apps to an SD card and phone backup functionality. The marketplace has also received an update, and will soon allow users to purchase music.

Android 2.2 has also had many performance tweaks and improvements, which includes a faster boot up time when starting the phone.

This latest version will be made available shortly.
