Apple to announce iPhone 5 on October 4

Wednesday, 28 September 2011

Apple has sent out invitations to its media event on October 4th 2011 with the tagline 'Lets talk iPhone', suggesting that this is the day that the new iPhone will be announced. We share some thoughts on the new announcements below.

What can we expect from the announcement? Well Apple are going to be announcing the new iPhone (whether its called the iPhone 5 or 4S or perhaps both) and will also be announcing the release date for both the new iPhone and also iOS 5.

What will the new iPhone be like? There has been some rumours suggesting that the new iPhone will have a teardrop shaped design, while others suggest that it will look similar to the iPhone 4. We are going to side with the iPhone 4 design, perhaps with a few modifications. We also think it will feature the Apple A5 dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM and an 8 megapixel camera. The new iPhone could also be compatible for worldwide networks, including both GSM and CDMA.

We already know that iOS 5 will be bringing a host of new enhancements and features such as an overhaul of notifications, iMessage, new camera features, twitter connectivity and the ability to set up without a PC amongst other additions and improvements.

Another rumoured feature that has been kept pretty much under wraps is a new voice and assistant ability providing greater control of your iPhone and its apps using your voice.

As with all things Apple, the company may throw us all off and announce something we never saw coming, but we will find out on October 4th.
