Apple holding surprise conference on iPhone 4

Thursday, 15 July 2010

Apple has invited members of the press to a surprise press conference on Friday at 6PM (UK time) about the iPhone 4.

While Apple has not revealed what will be covered in the conference, many reports are suggesting that it will be about the reception issues of the new iPhone. This is what we also think the conference will be about.

The issues are to do with the stainless steel band around the side. When a user holds the left side of the phone covering the black stripe, the signal drops and in some cases disappears altogether, with users reporting calls being dropped. This issue can be seen in our iPhone 4 review video.

Apple has said that a software issue was causing the signal bars to be displayed incorrectly. A software update (iOS 4.1) is in beta stages and has been given to developers. However many users on iOS 4.1 beta have reported that the reception still persists.

Many reports have suggested that an iPhone 4 recall may be imminent, whether Apple will recall the iPhones or not remains to be seen.

We will bring you the latest on the iPhone 4 and any announcements made.
