Toshiba TG01 Review
Toshiba TG01
User Rating: Toshiba have waded into the touchscreen smartphone market with their own unique offering; the TG01. It’s a phone that evidently borrows from Toshiba’s speciality in flatscreen televisions. In terms of its appearance, there’s nothing much to note about the bodywork, in fact, it rather looks like quite a few similar style phones; however, something that immediately stands out, is the vast screen, measuring a brilliant 4.1 inches, it is one of the biggest screens available on a phone. Despite having this ample screen, the phone is pleasantly slim line and weighs a fair 128g.
This phone has a decent in-built memory, and it comes with an 8gb microSD card provided, which is more than enough for most applications, there is also a stylus and a USB to micro USB adapter provided as well.
There is an average 3.2 megapixel camera; however it is missing any flash or autofocus, so it’s letdown in that aspect. It also has no front-mounted camera for video calling, which is again disappointing.
The large screen means the touchscreen is easy to use, and with a good resolution of 800x480 pixels, watching videos and surfing the web are enjoyable. Unfortunately there is a rather confusing and convoluted home-screen layout which will frustrate.
At times it is less responsive and slower than an iPhone for example, but the Windows Mobile 6.1 applications and internet browsing are pretty quick in comparison. The battery life is also a little poor.
It may not be as good as an iPhone, but there are enough good points for this to be a consideration.
Summary:
- Good Points: The lovely large screen and generous available memory.
- Bad Points: Poor battery life and a slightly disappointing camera.
- Others to Consider: Apple iPhone, HTC Magic.
- Free on Contract with: Orange.
