The Nokia 6700 Slide mobile phone is a basic mid-range affordable handset. The phone is eye-catching and looks very stylish with a brushed aluminium body and curved edges.

Holding the phone feels good, with the size and weight of it just right. The slider mechanism is smooth, and overall the phone feels solid and well built. It is also available in a range of colours to suit those who want something other than black or silver, we are happy with the silver one we have.

The 6700 Slide is relatively easy to use, with it slid open or closed. The navigation pad allows users to navigate through the phone quickly and easily, with a home button providing quick access to the main menu. The home screen could however get a little busy and crowed with the ability to add shortcuts to different contacts, calendar entries, email, camera, Ovi store, Facebook, clock, messaging and photos. The numeric keypad used for texting and phone calls is easy to use but in our opinion the keypad, which has no raised button feel is too flat and smooth.

Even though this phone is not a 'smartphone' as such, it does offer email access, web browsing and social networking applications. It has 3G connectivity but lacks WiFi, so loading the web can sometimes take a while. Though there is a maps application, turn by turn directions are not possible as there is no GPS support.

The phone does have a rather good 5 megapixel autofocus camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and dual LED flash. The quality of the pictures are good, so the camera is good for quick shots and casual use.

Overall this is a stylish affordable mobile phone and would appeal to those who just want a basic keypad phone, though perhaps would exceed some expectations of a basic mobile.

Summary:

  • Good Points: Stylish
  • Bad Points: Smooth keypad
  • Others to consider: Sony Ericsson Zylo
  • Free on contract with: O2, Orange, Vodafone, Three
