The W377 is another of Motorola’s clamshell designs, and externally it does look pretty nice; precise and symmetrical, and with a sleek curved feel to it, it fits nicely in the palm of your hand. The clamshell design is a style that Motorola seems to favour, and they are pretty good at making attractive phones.

Unfortunately, this phone can only be considered a beginner level phone, because it really has very little to offer. If you need a phone to text and make calls, and nothing else then this is a good, reliable little phone, with fairly decent battery life. However, that’s where it ends. It features Bluetooth and an FM Radio, but the memory capabilities and the camera I dread to mention. However, I feel obliged to.

The camera is VGA, which is approximately 0.3 megapixels; with the cameras available now on various handsets, this is almost laughable. On top of the poor camera is the built-in memory of just 8mb, and with no available memory card slot, then I’m afraid that’s all you will be getting. It is a shame that this phone is so poor, because it does actually looks quite nice, and Motorola seem fairly proud of it (enough to feature it quite prominently on their website at least).

I can see this being a decent phone to give to someone who really doesn’t use a mobile for anything other than texting and calling. There is a market for this phone, but it will never be a big seller.

Summary:

  • Good Points: There aren’t many to be honest, it looks nice, and is relatively easy to use.
  • Bad Points: The camera and the available memory are really very poor.
  • Others to Consider: Motorola RAZR2 V9, Sony Ericsson W980i.
  • Free on Contract with: O2 & Orange.
