The ROKR E8 is the next in the line of Motorola’s ROKR phones, and to be honest, it’s quite a nice phone, it certainly looks pretty good. It is modelled in the candy bar, block style, yet despite this it actually remains quite sleek in appearance. It’s been out for a little while now, but it’s still holding its own in the tough mid-range phone market.

This particular phone, like most of the Motorola family, is primarily a music phone, featuring, as it does, a very nice music player, which is easy to use by most accounts. The music player is compatible with Windows Media Player 11, allowing for easy transfer between PC or laptop and mobile. This phone also has better memory than a lot of its predecessors as well; it comes with 2gb, but can support 6gb, which should be ample memory for its functions.

It also possesses a very good FM radio feature that is easily accessible, and with the decent sound quality available, this is really a very good music phone. Add to that an excellent battery life and you’re on your way.

Once again it should be mentioned that Motorola have tarnished the phone slightly by attaching a rather poor camera, but 2 megapixels will suffice, it will still do a job, but don’t expect the highest of quality to your photos.

It’s not the most amazing phone, but it is a very good phone; it looks good, it sounds good, and it performs its tasks well, if not a little slowly at times. The camera isn’t rubbish, but it’s not great in comparison to what’s available elsewhere, but it shouldn’t be allowed to tarnish what is a very functional and enjoyable music phone.

Summary:

  • Good Points: Good sound quality, nice media player, and an excellent battery life.
  • Bad Points: Once again for Motorola it’s the camera that stands out; however, this phone can be somewhat slow at times as well.
  • Others to Consider: Sony Ericsson W715, Samsung Steel.
  • Free on Contract with: O2, Orange & T-Mobile.
