Named like a bad action movie sequel, the RAZR2 v9, is Motorola’s latest attempt to reinvent their biggest success; the RAZR. Their ultra-thin, Clamshell design is a phone that they’ve used as their flagship design for many years. The RAZR2 is perhaps just a little heavier than its predecessors, but it is essentially very similar in appearance and in function.

It features two high resolution screens, both of which are decent sizes, the external measuring a respectable 2 inches across, and the interior marginally bigger at 2.2 inches. The RAZR’s have always been fairly attractive phones, it was part of their initial appeal, that and the fact that they weigh next to nothing, makes them popular to this day.

This new generation has excellent connectivity, with high speed transfer available, and with quadband accessible, these phones can be used anywhere in the world, dependent on network provider.

It again features a very good mp3 player, with touch sensitive controls, and the sound quality is decent, all popular music formats are supported as well, which makes this a quality music phone. However, with built-in memory just a paltry 45mb, chances are that you’ll want to upgrade via the microSD memory card to the 2gb that can be supported. Video calling is available as just another of the good features on this phone.

Once again with Motorola, it is let down by its rather poor 2 megapixel camera, but if you just accept that Motorola don’t do camera technology, then this is actually quite a competent phone, and shouldn’t be overlooked entirely, because, as suggested, it actually has some rather nice features.

Summary:

  • Good Points: It has two very good high resolution screens for internal and external view, and it has a respectable mp3 player.
  • Bad Points: Once again I feel Motorola have overlooked the need for a decent phone by which to compete against the big boys.
  • Others to Consider: Sony Ericsson W980i.
  • Free on Contract with: Vodafone.
