The Motorola DEXT is a touch screen phone with a slide out Qwerty keyboard. It runs on the Android operating system and is the first phone to come with MOTOBLUR; which can access your social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace as well as your email accounts, displaying them on your home screen and keeping you up to date.

The phone does look good, with its smooth rounded corners and simple looking front screen, it has a youthful appearance. However it is quite heavy, compared with other similar phones it is one of the heaviest. The addition of the slide out Qwerty keyboard is a nice feature, and for those who like to use a physical keyboard will find this easy to use, though I found that I preferred the on screen keyboard which worked very well, and was a breeze to use. The Android operating system is also quite easy to use once you get the hang of it, but it does allow for excellent customisation allowing you to make the phone personalised to your liking.

The DEXT has got a lot of features that would appeal to many who want a functional phone instead of having multiple devices. The 5megapixel camera does not contain the high end features other phones do but this camera is easy to use with an external button and also has autofocus, producing good quality photos, it also has an easy to use camcorder function. There is also a great music player, which can play most formats and the sound quality is rather good, you can also playback video. Also included is GPS with turn by turn directions. The phone comes included with a 2GB microSD card which is a bit small but it can support up to 32GB.

Overall the Motorola DEXT is an easy to use phone with some excellent features and with MOTOBLUR makes this phone appealing to those who are on many social networks and like to be always up to date and keeping others up to date, mainly young adults who are out and about. It is also ideal for first time smart phone users.

Summary:

  • Good Points: Looks good, easy to use, camcorder and camera function.
  • Bad Points: Physical Qwerty keyboard, quite heavy.
  • Others to Consider: HTC Hero, LG Cookie
  • Free on Contract with: Orange
