The GD510 Pop from LG is an ultra-compact budget mobile phone. With over 1 million sold worldwide, the Pop is already a hit.

This phone is similar in specifications to the LG Cookie, and looks to follow it in success. It is smaller than the Cookie and very lightweight, making it a perfect pocket-sized phone. It is stylish with its smooth, uncluttered looks and we think it looks better than the Cookie.

The Pop has a 3.15 megapixel camera which can also record video. Despite the camera having no autofocus or flash, the picture quality is surprisingly quite good. The phone is also good for music, with a great music player and FM radio.

The user interface is easy to use but the full touchscreen is not very responsive, requiring a hard prod or using the bottom of a pen as there is no stylus included. Web browsing on the device is not great, mainly due to the lack of 3G and WiFi, which means that browsing is slow over the 2G network.

The internal memory is small at only 42MB but there is an external microSD card slot allowing users to increase the memory for storing more music, photos and videos.

Available for the Pop is an innovative solar cell back plate, allowing solar charging for those times when battery is low and a charger is nowhere near.

Overall the LG Pop is a basic touchscreen phone with an attractive design, and will be a great contender for those looking for a touchscreen phone on a budget.

Summary:

  • Good Points: compact size, looks good
  • Bad Points: no stylus, no 3G or WiFi
  • Others to Consider: LG Cookie, Samsung Tocco Lite
  • Free on Contract with: O2, Orange, Virgin Mobile, T-Mobile
