The Acer neoTouch P400 smartphone is another Windows Mobile device, running the 6.5 version of the Windows Mobile operating system.

The front of the phone looks great, it is stylish and smooth with a black gloss look, however looking at the back of the device and it has more of a matt look and rubbery feel, which unfortunately doesn't make the style flow.

One of the biggest frustrations of the phone is the resistive touchscreen, it is slow to respond, and is best used with a stylus, though a stylus is not included. This makes text entry quite difficult and slow, especially for texting.

The Windows Mobile operating system is also frustrating to use especially with the touchscreen. It feels outdated and trying to find certain features such as the camera is more of a chore than an easy navigation experience. Thankfully there is a dedicated camera button on the side of the phone.

The camera is basic and has no autofocus or flash, which results in average quality photos.

There are however some good points to make about this phone. The first is internet browsing, which is on par with desktop browsing, it is also quite fast. Second is Messenger, for those who want to chat with their friends over Windows Messenger, this phone has a dedicated app already installed, and is simple to use. Thirdly is the app store, though there are not as many apps as there are available for the iPhone, there are some useful apps and some fun apps, and apps for those who want to use social networks.

Overall this is more of a business orientated phone with support for Microsoft exchange email and comes preloaded with Pocket Office, allowing users to use Word, Excel and Powerpoint. However this is not the best phone Acer has created, especially after the brilliant Android based Acer Liquid.

Summary:

  • Good Points: Internet browsing
  • Bad Points: Resistive touchscreen
  • Others to consider: Acer Liquid
